A game I thoroughly enjoyed when it was originally released on consoles. It’s also the perfect example of the absolute worst job a company can do porting a game from console to PC. The saddest thing of all is that Arc System Works doesn’t even seem to have learned their lesson quite yet. For those not in the know, BBCT was published on PC by a third party company(H2 Interactive Co., Ltd.). This particular release was so late after the original console release, that people were already playing the next game in the BlazBlue series on consoles. To make things worse, instead of making the online play work over steam for PC, they just scrapped online play for the PC version all together. It’s quite depressing to even write about, knowing the same thing is probably going to happen to Guilty Gear XRD pretty soon. I almost don’t even want to put the game on my site, but it’s my goal to have almost every PC fighting game on here so… Enough about all the horrible things that went wrong, The game has the original 13 characters and a full visual novel mode-esque story for each character. So if you’re into brain dead 1 round easy fights, followed by some story, then you may want to pick the game up. Secondly, when this game goes on sale, it really goes on sale. During pretty much any holiday you can pick this up for less than $3. Here’s to hoping Arc System Works stops throwing away money and publishes their games on PC for real soon. The game just recently opened it’s beta to the public, which is freely available to download and play. As for the catch, the game uses the same F2P model that League of Legends made popular, so free characters or “Legends” as they call it will rotate. In order to gain permanent access to a Legend, you need to unlock them using ingame gold earned from playing, or real money using micro transactions. Brawlhalla also currently has a “Legendary Pack” purchasable, which includes all current and future legends. Seems like a pretty good deal if you’re going to put a lot of time into this game. Additionally the store has other vanity options such as character skins and taunts for purchase. Brawlhalla has a pretty simple control scheme, yet it still feels like it has plenty of depth to it. Each Legend has 3 move sets available to them. Being unarmed and one of their two weapons. The light attacks are the same across all legends, but the heavy attacks or “Signature Moves” as the game calls it are what makes the characters all unique. Additionally each Legend has different stats such as move speed or attack power. The weapons drop randomly around the stage just like items do in Smash, so some of the meta involves trying to keep your opponent unarmed, and yourself with your preferred weapon. The engine in the games feels super smooth and responsive, and the game is something like 280mb. I’d say it’s pretty well optimized. I’ve only had one instance of netplay where someone was teleporting around because of their bad internet, otherwise the online is also super smooth. Another great thing about it, the matchmaking is currently super quick. There currently seems to be a lot of people playing and it takes no time at all to get into a ranked 1v1 or 2v2(very fun). Overall if you’ve ever thought “Man, I like Smash64, but if only it had some of the later games mechanics and polish.” Then you should definitely give this game a try. A reminder that Brawlhalla is still in open beta, and anything might change at some point. Continue reading “Brawlhalla – Free to Play Smash-like” ? The beta was overall a pretty positive experience, but it wasn’t without its downfalls. The servers went down a few times and overall the net code had its fair share of issues. Initially when the beta released only Ken, Necalli, R. Mika, and Vega were playable. Throughout the course of the beta period Capcom released Karen, Rashid, Nash, Bison, Ryu, Chun-Li, Birdie, and Cammy. First things first… Netcode. Capcom has finally listened to the masses, and implemented rollback netcode in Street Fighter V. However, they haven’t got it right, at least not yet. There is no selectable input delay, or any input delay that I can feel for that matter, which means there’s no buffer for smoothness and jitter. Everything is just fucking teleporting all over the place due to the rollbacks. So while Capcom’s code did feel very responsive. It also looked like ass and was extremely frustrating half the time(Mind games? Fuck that, Lag Mind Games). The matchmaking didn’t have any filters either, so if you’re in the US there is good chance you’d get matched with someone from Mexico, Canada, or all the way out in europe. However, Capcom’s doing the right thing by having this beta specifically for the net code, and not just launching their crap net code as they did with Street Fighter X Tekken (that net code didn’t even have sound in the beginning). So with about four months to improve and plenty of data, hopefully Capcom can pull through. Now, about those game mechanics… Continue reading “Street Fighter V Beta Recap – October 2015” ? Problem is they are either playing it on the XBone or the PS4. And it’s not for a lack of effort, streamers with beefy PC setups such as NYCfurby have tried, but the PC version just can’t compare. Additionally tons of DLC, and by that I mean disc-locked content has already been found. Complete kombatants such as Sindel, Barraka, Rain, and more have been hacked and made completely playable. I was reading the reviews on the steam store page and I agree 100% with this users review: Click to read more! Continue reading “Mortal Kombat X” ?
